Chills!

It's 65 degrees outside according to my phone. My body says this little light jacket is truly comfortable. The breeze on the deck is not very comfortable, so the old woman will mostly stay inside today until it is time to put up the feathered furies. Have another Maran broody--a full toned black one this time. She is a beauty, but her attitude is not so lovely. At least she does not peck me. Maybe tomorrow we will work on changing her decision to sit on eggs. sigh

Found my red amaryllis blooming--well, showing their petals and lots of red. The full bloom will take at least another day. So happy to see it bloom. It won't show unless one is walking up the ramp, but that is ok, too. Knowing it is there makes me happy.

Worked with the boys on vocabulary this morning and discussed The Scarlet Letter. They listened to most of the book on something called Audible because they left the actual book in the red van that Grandmother took to Louisiana to help her youngest daughter while moving. Anyway, the boys learned how to switch between a Word page to another page online to get the definitions for the vocab. Now tonight they should be putting the words into the sentences designed for them. Such good kids! Know mine were this sweet at this age as well, but it has been years since mine were running through this old house. Miss that.

Had the living room vacuumed and the floor looking decent. Took the dogs out on the deck and powdered their itchies. They came inside and shook. See the rolling eye balls here! Footprints--the doggy kind--next to the rug that was just cleaned. argh Love my dogs.

Was preparing four boiled eggs to make deviled eggs this morning. Dropped one. Thompson said, "Thank you very kindly." Sylvia looked at me--you know the look. So peeled another one and divided it. My lunch had two eggs. Oh well.

Vicki just came and sat down to visit with me. Her RA is so bad that they gave her two shots of something. Not sure what the stuff is that they give her, but one of the meds makes her hair fall out--like chemo. Remembering when doing medical transcription that the drug methotrexate was one of the cancer drugs that was used for other problems. Think one of the problems included RA. What a horrible disease! Each person has a different part of the body that is affected. Know that my online friend Ardie has her hands so messed up and her feet messed up so that just functioning is difficult. But two more of my friends have this same mess here near home.

The neighbors behind me got into a shouting match yesterday evening. Think the grandson hit golf balls into their truck. Yep, that would tend to tick off a person. Sooner or later something will happen, but maybe it won't be something that will affect me or my critters.

Hoping to be able to sleep well tonight. Have a little jar of stuff that helps with the pain, but it makes me drowsy, too. May just try that rather than advil.

Got a shipment from Nuts.com today that came in a regular little refrigerated box--aluminum foil type box inside layers of cardboard and packed with freezer bags of ice. Some of the shipment included chocolate. Love making little bags of goodies for the kids. Oh, and the old woman loves some of this stuff as well. Great big GRIN! It might not be good for me, but enjoy it just the same. Too many things are not "good" for us.

While Vicki was here she showed me the stretch that her physical therapist had her learn for her sciatica. Hmm. Why is this stuff not common knowledge? Have looked up various exercises online, but none of them looked like this. Had no idea that each stretch requires 12 seconds in each position for the body to accept that it needs to actually stretch. Learn something every day.

Michelle was not able to make it today--betting her RA is giving her fits. But she should be here tomorrow if nothing rips, rears, or ravels. Hope so, anyway.

Sterling called and was telling me about how he and Jacqui make chicken noodle soup. Sounded good, but lots of noodles from a sack. Wish Mom's noodles were easy to make. Hers were the best in the entire world. She made "egg" noodles. Mostly whipped eggs with salt, pepper, butter, and some flour to hold them together. Knowing the proportions would help. Guess a little experimentation would go a long way. Or maybe just buy some tofu and use that instead. sigh

Just put some cream of chicken soup, some mushrooms, and some hominy together to make a soup of sorts. Can see my daughter's face right this minute. She thinks hominy is the most horrible stuff that ever existed that someone mistakenly called food. And she would never be caught eating grits either! Funny how folks have such terrible feelings about some foods. Escargot comes to mind. My mother-in-law had some strange sayings about coating something horrible with chocolate and calling it dessert. She had a warped sense of humor, too.

Will undoubtedly regret it, but the dogs were begging for "cookies" out of the box. Dog cookies! Yep, they give the dogs gas, but they crunch nicely for the dogs. Know that feeling--something crunchy sounds good. Kinda how soup feels some days. The only difference is that I don't "paw" the soup bowl the way these dogs paw the biscuit box.

While Vicki was here she told me that the doctor that did her neck surgery had died in a plane crash last night. Local news never sees the light in this house for various reasons, so any news is news to me. Just glance at headlines mostly about things in the world, but it is sad that another doctor has been lost to our area. The doctor who performed the surgery on Lewis' neck lost his license for selling prescriptions or some such. Maybe it was not enough money just doing the regular work he had to do. Not sure what amount of money would make some folks happy or content. Not hurting would be about enough for some people.

Have seen the headlines that say the pipelines have been stalled or stopped by those who hacked into the system. Computers have been a wonderful invention, for the most part, but they have so many little flaws that can cause big problems. Think that is true in too many areas of our lives these days. About the only thing that is a sure 'nuff unhackable source of goodness is prayer. We have a straight line to Him at any time of day or night. No backups needed on His channels.

Don't know much of anything tonight. Saw a picture of a friend's grandson where it said that he was going to Texas Tech. At least Lowry finally got to see a picture of  his grandson and had some idea of what he is doing. Sad situation when family won't allow family to be a part of their lives. But it is not all that uncommon a situation, despite what we might think. Bitterness is a bad thing; spite is even worse. Let's try to just practice love in all that we do or say and not complain or otherwise gripe about how others treat us. We are only responsible for ourselves and not for how others behave or feel. God gives us His love freely and abundantly. Be grateful.

May you all rest well and awake with joy. You are loved.
