Maybe Floors.

 Maybe Floors.

It seems as if today was pretty full of stuff to do: pick up the groceries ready at United, mend the front fence, cook dog food and put it in bags, clean up the mess, and prepare something for the old woman to eat tonight. Judie and Weldon came by to bring me four heads of cabbage for the hens. Gave Judie a little bag of pumpkin mixed with dark chicken meat for her two little rescues: Samson and Solomon. One is black and the other is white. Cuteness overload! Those little puppers have the cutest faces! Yesterday, Judie was keeping her precious granddaughter, Zoe. Hope it is spelled correctly, but it could be Zoey Lou. The Lou is also in Judie’s name and in her grandmother’s name, so the little one sometimes gets called Lou Lou. She was wearing the prettiest pink bow in her hair that made her just look as perky as it always seems that Judie is. How that woman has so much energy is beyond me! Anyway, no eggs are sold here—just in case anyone wonders, but we had worked out a bargaining system for editing work for Judie’s book, Edgar’s Faith. So, that is why she brought cabbages and one cantaloupe that had seen better days. Hens love that kind of stuff. And a dozen eggs went home with Zoe.

Two or more of the hens are going to have to have another wing clipping attempt. Red just refuses to be kept in the yard. Now that she doesn’t have a way under the fence, she again made it to the top rail to tell me about her opinion of being kept inside the yard. SO glad these dogs mind me and stay in the yard. Think at one time Thompson could have easily jumped the fence. Sylvia actually went through a place in the corner near a fence post. But Lance and Jennifer found that place and mended it. Critters! Opened the door on the truck to empty the backseat of groceries. Both dogs hauled out the front door and jumped inside the truck. Yes, they wanted a ride. They got to go as far as the carport.

Patty was out early this morning putting up more silver streamers to keep the birds away from her car. She said she knew the cool air this morning would make me happy. Sure enough! But then the wind got up and made it a little hard to enjoy the breeze and the cool at the same time. Oh well. Will have winter before we know it! Will have to figure out a better way to get water to the hens’ coop, but otherwise, unless it does the snow, ice, lines down and no electricity like it did in 2021, it should not be a big deal to care for my critters.

The biggest job around this house is the floors. Vacuum, mop, sweep out the dog hair, clean up the stuff that tracks in from the coops, whatever it is, nothing ever makes it totally clean unless the lady who cleaned for me after my surgery could come to do it all at one time. Maybe tomorrow the floors will get cleaned. Getting the kitchen counters cleaned off yesterday made me feel accomplished, but then looked at the table today: three sweet potatoes, one onion, bananas, an apple, some tomatoes, five or six heads of cabbage, one avocado, and two dozen eggs in cartons. At least the laundry is done for the time being. Sigh.

Do you ever just stop and thank God that you are able to just walk, talk, listen, and enjoy life? Even in the middle of dirty floors and dust bunnies galore, life is so precious to me. Each day the memories of times when my husband came home hot and tired and dirty, the children ran in and out of the house with their friends, and whatever dog we had jumped up on their beds, those were some of the best times to remember. Yes, it was constant work it seemed some days, but we were young, strong, and loved each other very much. Even though the young and strong part is pretty much just a memory, love still comes to my mind when those children drift in and out of my day. Someday we will all be together again without the stress that comes with this world and its stupidities. We will recognize one another as the disciples recognized Jesus Christ. But our scars will be gone, and the guilt will no longer be with us because He covered us with His love. We will no longer have tears to cry for losses and mistakes. May that day be swift to come and His peace and kingdom reign!

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
