Weird Hours.

 Weird Hours.

Lately the dogs have awakened me or something has disturbed me at night so that getting up at exceptionally early hours has happened more often than not. The result has been such strange sleepy moods. Sit down to read or even to mess with the computer and the old woman finds herself almost falling asleep. It reminds me of my mother-in-law whenever we would take her somewhere in the truck. She would sit in the back seat and begin to snore. Not too certain about the snoring part, but have found it pretty difficult to stay awake around 9 or 10 in the morning. Today a trip to Sutherland’s kept me awake, but now it is nearly six in the afternoon and yawns have begun to close my eyelids rather often. Oh well.

The young man from Habitat came this morning, so we managed to get the air compressor, some more plastic water fittings, and a couple of bird feeders onto a flat trailer thing to haul out to the big truck. My pushing might not have been the saving grace or anything, but it didn’t hurt anything. At least the little trailer thing did not get away from him when he was putting it down on the bed. Don’t think the thing hurt either one of us this way. The young man also told me about a guy by the name of Andy who will probably come help me do whatever needs to be done the way it is requested the first time. Despise having someone tell me that something can’t be done when it is so obvious that it can be done. Guess life goes on. But the right kind of hinges should make a big difference in how a door hangs, too. So, there’s that.

Met a nice lady at Sutherland’s today. Her belt said, “Yogi” on it. She said her parents watched the cartoons, and she sat right there with them. It made me wonder later if she had a sibling named Boo Boo. But glad it never occurred to me at the time. Don’t you know she heard that often enough as a child! The things people name their children. Daddy scolded Mom for giving Sterling the initials TS. He said that he would have trouble in the army when the others heard his initials. Oh well.

Siri says that it only got to 95 degrees today, but the gauge out front says 100. The one on the west deck says 100 degrees as well. Kinda warm, dear hearts! Maybe the next rain will cool us off just a wee bit. Nothing like hoping.

Made peach tea today in the coffee pot. Pretty tasty tea. May try to make some from these plums that Mary brought the other day. Not sure plum juice will translate to tea, but it can’t hurt anything to try. Know the chicks and hens will eat the residue after the juice is removed. May end up with little red splotches all over the yard. Yikes!

Even with shorts and a tank top, this house is just mighty warm. Just turned on the AC in the bedroom and shut it up so it would be cool by tonight. Thompson might not like it, but after a shower it will feel mighty nice to me. The dogs are pretty hot, as well, however, because they have been walking into their trough and lying down to wet their bellies. It doesn’t even matter to me if they decide to track it into the house.

A sheriff’s car came up the street today and turned around in my driveway. Did not see the name of the county on it, but it made me wonder what was going on. Some folks just like to look around, maybe. At least my neighbors are back from getting their oldest son moved to Austin for the next three years of his work as a dermatologist. Interesting field. Everyone has skin, don’t ya know.

Things back east and anywhere south of Canada are still hazy and stifling for those trying to breathe—like just about everybody! We really need for those fires to be put out and the skies cleared of the smoke. No matter how the fires started—and there will always be stories about such things—getting the fires out is important now. Maybe a nor-eastr is needed! Let us ask God fervently to help this nation and others affected by these fires. The world is a mess—as usual. But God can help us. Let us ask.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.a
