Small Frustrations.
When a person can see how things are put together and then
someone says that it can’t be done like that, it is just a bit frustrating and
disgusting. So tomorrow the old woman is going to attempt to do some carpentry.
Have the tools—might need a drill bit or two—and most of the needed lumber, so
if bams, whams, and the assorted naughty word is heard out on Dickerson Hill,
think nothing of it. Determination may not be the quality needed, but it is a
dadgummed good start. Talking to Sterling about what my desires are in the
building department, he said it can be done. Even if it is not done right the
first time, second and third attempts won’t be anybody’s problem but mine! So
there!
We have had some thunder this afternoon. But the temp is
still 82 degrees out front. Move around just a bit and one can make up one’s own
rain out of just pure perspiration! Wring out a tee shirt or two and water the
flower beds! Would much rather see some good ol’ fashioned Texas rain drops!
LOTS of them! The east windows have a few drops on them now. Hope that is not
all we get.
Got all the stuff out of the workshop except the various
nails that need to be gone through and sorted. The Habitat folks have not come
for the air compressor, but that is not going to be in my way. Just put the
zero turn up a bit ago to keep it out of the weather. It still runs like a
champ, but the old woman will avoid using it as long as it makes me take two
days to quit hurting after doing the entire yard. Would rather pay the $75 to
$100 to have someone else cut the stuff. Just will eventually need someone to
weed eat, too.
Moved the chicks fence again this morning to make the area
larger. So far only one chick got out and was not difficult to catch. Put one
of the big water bowls in there so they could either drink or drown. Think they
are big enough now to get out of the water if they get in there. They are not
quite two months old now, but can already tell that one of the naked necks is
definitely a rooster. Little twerp! Need to see if anyone wants his happy, ugly
little self. Guess he needs a few more weeks before he can be given away.
Chicks get picked on rather badly if they are brought into an established flock.
He will need to be big enough to fight back.
Have a bumper crop of purslane, marigolds, and larkspur in
the front flower bed. Purslane doesn’t get all that pretty, but pretty well
takes over the bed and produces some little yellow flowers that open when they
get danged good and ready and close with the same amount of concern. The
larkspurs are tall and pretty and just as poisonous as a venomous snake. They
are not something to have around children, cats, dogs, and especially cattle.
Cows like the danged things, and then the flowers and new growth will kill ‘em
deader than a doornail. Lots of plants in the delphinium family are like that.
But just as scary to me when it was discovered: irises are poisonous to dogs
and cats. If they just brush against the bloom, they can be poisoned. They are
the image of the French fleur-de-lis, but not sure why the French would want a
poisonous flower as their symbol. Oh well. The thorns on roses are poisonous to
me!
For those who could use an inch or two of rain, let’s pray
that God blesses this good earth with what it needs to water the veggies and
grass as well as fill up the stock ponds and lakes. For those who are ducking missiles
in the Ukraine, may God protect and bless you. For those who are witnessing the
senseless killings in various places, may God forgive us and watch over our
children, teachers, police officers and other first responders. May His kingdom
come soon!
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
