Weather Surprise!
Don’t think the temperature even got much over 81 today. In
fact, this morning it was just slightly under 70 degrees out on the back deck.
Amazing. And this is June—in Texas! It has been a totally pleasant day.
Got a message from Sharon Dickerson. She is at home and
said she would send a picture of her stint. Not sure what to expect. Stints
come in all sizes and are made for multiple purposes. Her’s must have had
something to do with the gallbladder and liver, but who knows how it was used.
Guess we will find out.
It would have been a perfect day to work outside, but
instead the living room, kitchen, and bedroom got vacuumed. Not mopped, but at
least the dust bunnies were thinned out. Still need to mop under the bed to see
if the hibernating bunnies can be drug out from under there. Would hate to wake
up in the middle of the night while being attacked!
Have about a half-gallon of “Home Defense” spray to use
around here to keep the spiders at bay. Changed the batteries in the handle,
but the danged sprayer just won’t work. Jenn suggested soaking it in hot water.
So far that has done zilch for the situation. Have a feeling that transferring
some of the poison to a different spray bottle will have to end up being the
solution. Just don’t like dealing with poisons at all. Still, bugs and spiders
in the house make me feel worse than the idea of using poison.
The chicks have found the east side lot. They lined the
fence between my place and the jungle that has developed in the place owned by
Max Greene. Guess if the person has been in jail a few times, the city does not
go after them to mow their grass? But then, some guy here in town murdered
another fellow and was out on bail the next day. Not sure why things are seemingly
warped when it comes to justice, but when folks steal, burglarize places, get
incarcerated for multiple charges of abuse or battering old folks, how can
those same folks just bop in and out of jail as if nothing they do is worth
making them stay in jail? Don’t ask how this topic came out of the chicks
finding the east lots. You know my mind has problems staying on topic.
The broody hen got to spend the night in the hens’ coop
last night. But she went straight back in the little coop this morning. She is
determined to make more baby chicks. Silly hen! Stephen said that a raccoon got
all six of his baby chicks the other night. That is just so sad. Wish it were
easier to catch mine at night. Have at least two roosters and maybe three. One
little brown Easter Egger crows—or tries to crow. But there are two brown ones,
so catching the right one might be problematic. The turkin rooster will be easy
to spot. Those are absolutely the ugliest chickens ever! That long naked neck
is just pitiful!
Cooked for the dogs again today—a couple of soup bones and
a bunch of chicken thigh meat. The bones are for a treat, but the chicken will
take care of a few days to go with their kibble. Just have to be sure that
Sylvia does not get her portion plus what Thompson does not eat. She is just a
bit of a piggy.
Jennifer sent me a picture of the dahlias given to Gary for
his birthday. They are beginning to bloom. And Grayson’s sunflowers are
gorgeous! Huge flowering heads standing up tall over the fence! SO glad my family
enjoys flowers as much as the old woman does.
Hoping that Stephen manages to work here tomorrow. Really
would like to get these two doors up and finished. The roof on the middle coop
is the next project. Need that place to be rain tight. Want to keep
diatomaceous earth in there for them to dust in to keep the bugs from getting
on any of them. Of course, we can’t really depend on getting any more rain this
summer, but it would not surprise me if we did not get at least one more heavy
hail before the summer ends. Those south of us got a mighty good slamming
recently. Those big hail stones don’t mess around!
Even glancing at the news is not good for a person’s blood pressure.
Trying not to read anything about anybody or any lawsuits or other miscellaneous
garbage. Someday—Lord, please let it be soon—truth will be recognized and lies
will fall away with the scabs that have developed in our society. Meanwhile,
let us truly look at history without prejudice. History tells us What happened
and sometimes even why. We need to keep things in mind that tell us about our
mistakes. Removing history will not make us better in the long run. Admitting
mistakes will help us avoid them in the future. May God help us to repent.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
