Neat Lawn—or Field.
The boys came, mowed, dug up khaki weed and Eve’s Necklace
trees, did weed eating, and then took about 20 minutes trying to turn the van
and trailer around. That backing thing is the reason the old woman gave Lewis’
trailer to Donny Anderson. Anyway, the yard looks nice inside and out. Think
most of the khaki weeds have been dug out so the dogs won’t get stickers in
their feet. Anyway, having filled the stupid gas container too full and lifting
it over the side of the truck instead of putting the tailgate down like an
intelligent person, yours truly is tired and sore. But SO very glad to have the
place looking as if someone cares about it. The hens may not approve having all
that grass cut, but such is life.
Really appreciate Energy Ogre since getting my electric
bill does not send me into panic mode. Wish they had such a service for natural
gas, but that is too much to hope. Just don’t understand how the gas bill can
go up to three times more than it normally would be. Sometimes it feels as if
there is no such thing as just living. It feels a bit more like surviving when
it is time to pay the bills. Think that may be how my nephew Danny felt when he
got the bill for his chicken houses. They wanted $9K—that is $9,000! How are
farmers supposed to make a living? And how are old folks going to eat, stay
warm in the winter, or stay reasonably comfortable in the summer. Have you seen
the heat reports in Texas? Believe it said 106 degrees in Abilene already. That
is just insanely hot for the month of May.
Thought macaroni and cheese sounded good recently and
bought a Kraft thing that goes in the microwave with a couple of packets of
cheese with some bacon bits. NOT very good at all. Won’t ever do that again.
Bleah. Oh well. Don’t need all those empty carbs anyway. Much prefer the peppers,
mushrooms, and cucumbers that was lunch today. Just different things that can
be eaten with or without lettuce.
Need to call my friend Barbara Mathews and get her to stop
by and pick up eggs. The Petrolia group will undoubtedly get together this Thursday
for lunch and a gab session, so she should be in town. Wish these folks would
consider getting up early to get together. Afternoons are horrible in the
summertime. Guess it is obvious that an old woman is a morning person. Oh well.
Some of us are just not exactly social as often as others on top of everything
else.
Saw a post from Mariellen Rose talking about her chemo
treatments and trying to get out of the hospital in time to make it home before
too late thirty. Hospitals never run on a real person’s schedule. Then, too,
read a post from Kathy’s husband, Stilton Jarlsberg, about trying to recover
from her loss and living without her. Know for a fact that losing your spouse
is one of the hardest things to deal with. Poor Patty is still finding ways to
deal with tears and changes. Eventually, things adjust, but it is never easy and
always hurts until only the good memories come back to you.
SO many beautiful flowers on FB right now. Baby chicks,
foals, lambs, and just the renewal of life is uplifting. As long as we can find
some hope, the world we live in can almost seem possible to change. Or our outlook
can change. For now, we just have to pray that those in horrible circumstances
can find some hope and not give up on knowing that love is still there for us
all.
Rest well this evening, my friends. You are loved.
