Heat Wave!

 Heat Wave!

Yep, it was 106 degrees on my front porch today. Mighty warm for the 15th of May. Next week it might be slightly cooler. One forecast called for a high in the 70s. Won’t bother me in the slightest.

Kinda hope that Tuesday in the DFW area is nice. My daughter has a birthday that day. Wish she could have a short vacation, but her work matters in the company. At least if it is decent, she can get in the pool after work and have a cool swim.

Have been following a group on FB called “What Kind of Snake Is This.” Have learned a few things, but still feel that if the snake is on my front porch or in a hen’s nest, it needs to leave and go somewhere else. Can see having nightmares about snakes in trees and climbing the house! And some guy from animal control tried to tell me that snakes don’t climb. Good grief!

My dogs are down to Milk Bone treats now. Wondering how my dogs back at home ever felt about getting any extras like a piece of bacon or a bone from a roast. Didn’t happen very often, you can bet. My parents did not even buy dog food until after their kids left home! THEN they let a dog live in the house with them. Guess Mom figured the dog would not be any messier than a girl with a saddle in her bedroom!

It has been a lazy day for yours truly. Just did not feel like doing much at all. Picked up eggs and found one that was rather small and slender, pointed more at one end. Have a feeling that egg is going to lead to a non-egg laying hen. After a certain age, it is almost like having pullets again with those small eggs they start out laying. The older hens just slowly stop laying and only eat and drink. But what is a person to do? Not going to kill and dress hens for the freezer, for sure. Some of my older hens are so sweet and friendly. They would make good pets, but not much good for anything else except to keep the grass trimmed down.

Will be glad when school is out again. The kids in college are finished for this semester except for getting their grades. And they have jobs now, too. They stay busy, but they all seem relatively happy. Guess that is more important than many things in life—being happy and satisfied.

Wondering how the canned food drive went for the postal department. They do this once a year to help the local food bank. Have seen the floor in the food bank covered in yellow bags from the drive. That means more folks have some choices in what they eat. It might be beans, but a can of beans is better than nothing. And the carriers who put the sacks of canned goods in their trucks have to fit their feet in there after all the sacks are deposited inside. It was a bit of fun sticking cans inside the sacks and slipping them in the box. A private box is not a problem. But then, they have those community boxes where things get stacked on top or on the ground. Oh well. Heat and ants.

Have another book started, but have not even wanted to read today. Now that is what is called totally lazy. Just need to get up tomorrow and DO something useful. Have an art project to finish, the workshop to clean up, the living room and kitchen floors to clean, and some apples to core and cook. Wonder how many things in that list will even be considered tomorrow. Hmm.

Watered my cucumber plants and the peach tree in a big pot of soil. Eventually will have to transplant the peach tree. Hoping the cucumbers make despite the fact that they are in the green house. No bees in there. May have to swish them around when the blooms start just for pollination. That is what Donny Anderson used to say about tomatoes. And he killed my tomatoes! LOL

Know nothing uplifting or marvelous, so will just tell you that it feels good to be alive right now. Knowing that you are loved is probably one of the nicest things that can happen to a person. It is a great thing to let someone know that they matter to you, so if it is within your grasp to do so, let others know they are loved.

Appreciate what God has given us. Share your part of His love. Smile and make the world a better place. YOU are loved.
