Itty Bitty Tasks.

 Itty Bitty Tasks.

My work shoes are now polished and shined. That little task has needed to be done for some time now, but the old woman who lives here has a tendency to procrastinate about a few things—that little job included. It’s messy. Put a placemat on the deep freezer and apply polish after the Velcro has been de-linted. Looked up the best way to de-lint the stuff and saw that someone suggested using a tape dispenser and only stroke it one direction. Hello! Some people know where the tape dispenser (plus tape) might be found in a house, but not happening here!! Then pulled the dog pool out of the green house and filled it up about half way. Sylvia promptly went wading. You already know where she went next. Also, dumped out some of the flower pots in the green house and moved ONE feed bin that was almost empty. The two hens who were in there to “help” me were ecstatic over the bugs and one worm that they found. Doesn’t take much to make hens happy when they know what to expect. Did, however, leave the flower container on the table so that the peach tree could continue to do well. Then planted some cucumber seeds. Would like to have some of those English cucumber seeds, but that is not what Sutherlands had that day. Oh well.

Talked to Carol Thonton again today. She is at home, but she is still ticked off with her doctor. He let someone else discharge her without any information about the surgery. She emphatically declared that she would never go into the hospital again on a Friday if she could help it. Anything to do with medical messes just frustrates the stink out of me! She apparently feels about the same.

The wind is getting up and is moving the trees pretty briskly. Would love to see some rain, but if we get anything, it will probably just be thunder bumpers with all that a storm entails. Oh well.

Sitting here nibbling on Cheetos. These things are totally addictive! Sam’s did not have any of the big bags when Jenn was there, so a big box of those little packages ended up in the pantry room. Guess that is the way to guarantee that an old woman will get exercise when she walks back and forth down the hall to get another package!!

Saw some of the prettiest scenery going to Garland the other day. Everything down that direction is green. Lots of difference between here and there. But they have just as much wind as we do, so folks build their homes right smack dab in the middle of groves of trees for wind breaks. My immediate thoughts about that revolved around the risk of high winds whipping a fire into the tree tops. Leave it to me to be pessimistic. Sigh

Gave my dogs some chicken this morning, and tomorrow will prepare rice and veggies to go with some pork loin. They do seem to feel better when they eat real food. Ordered some treats for them from Amazon—same thing as what Chewy has, but no shipping charge. They are not spoiled at all!

Sent off for some sheets of laundry detergent that are supposed to be non-allergenic. So freaking disgusted with stuff that is supposed to be perfume and dye free that still is dangerous for folks like me who have sensitive skin. Have been using Dreft 2 for babies and found out that almost all of the liquid soaps have some kind of chemicals in them that can cause burns. Go figure! Now to find some kind of safe shampoo!

Thought about going to vote for the proposals to hold taxes down for retired folks on the new ballots. Could have gone last week, but just was not in the mood to walk around the mall to stand in line. Maybe my vote would make a difference on the state ballot as it certainly does not make ANY difference on the city ballots. Argh!

Have one tiny little job to do in the bedroom today. My bedspread has a little rip in it that needs to be mended NOW before it gets to be a problem. Using a quilt for a bedspread tends to mean that it gets washed rather more often than any quilt my mother ever made. These things are machine quilted, however. And Mom never washed a king-sized quilt. Although, the “Flower Garden” that she crocheted is almost more than king-sized. Jenn washed it on her sanitary cycle for me in order to get the smoke smell out, so it is not only pretty, but it is clean. It is one of the few things that might be nice to have a lavender smell to it. Or peppermint.

Had to dust mop the little bathroom the other day. We have these tiny little black bugs outside that come inside and die as soon as they hit the spray barrier in the house. Thinking that maybe spraying outside around the foundation and on the ground might prevent them from coming inside. Every year we have “love bugs” that just about try to take over the Western soapberry trees. And the hens refuse to even look at them, much less eat them. Bet they taste nasty or something. Put some powder down for bugs in their favorite dusting place, but it did not stop them from digging up the entire flower bed to continue to dust there. Oh well.

Maggie Sewell came and brought a sack of potatoes, so now the dogs may have potatoes and pork loin for dinner tomorrow. Some of the dog food for sale in the stores have potatoes and other stuff that we eat—including sweet potato treats! Right now, Sylvia is disgusted with me because despite putting her paw on the treat jar, she can’t get me to fill up her treat dispenser! Mean old woman!

Maggie said the storm system that is coming through should be here late tonight. Hoping to sleep right through it! Would enjoy finding the green house floating in water, but that is not likely to happen. Just more wind.

The scissortail flycatchers are here now. They have been darting around and dancing in the air over my place. Miss that big elm we used to have out front, but it was not a very good place for bird nests anyway. As it is, the silly Bradford pear is just good for some shade—and for hanging out over the road and catching the top of the trash truck! Some birds had a nest in it, but it was on the ground after the first bad storm. Just too much high and heavy winds on this old hill.

So thankful that the early Americans were such an independent lot! They fought for our freedom. And now we need to appreciate what they did for us. The shootings are not going to stop by outlawing guns, so those of us who carry are going to have to be more aware of what is happening around us. May God provide us with safety, good law enforcement, and good judges. And may the outlaws get the idea that laws WILL be enforced!

Rest well and be grateful for all the many blessings. You are loved.
