Invitations.
Each year one or the other of the children has invited me
to their house for Thanksgiving. The trip, no matter who is driving, is just a
bit much. Anyone who has bones and arthritis knows about the “bit” part. This
year, Rachel, Lance’s youngest, wanted to know if the old woman would enjoy having
dinner with her boyfriend’s family and Lance’s family at his parents’ house.
Still have to consider the same old bits—the parts that just don’t do well
sitting in cars, trucks, mowers, or tractors. Anyway, thought it really was
sweet of the children to think of me and love each one of them dearly.
Cleaned out both coops early this morning before even
making coffee. Got that little job finished and put some chicken quarters on to
cook for dog food. Gave the dogs each some kibble and half a can of dog food.
They each smelled of it and turned their nose up. Argh. One time they will eat
it, and the next time it’s a no go! They just had a cup each of fresh cooked
chicken. Do you suppose they are just a tad spoilt rotten?
One thing about the dog food that they won’t eat—the hens
will fight each other for those little bites! If you have never been “flocked”
by a swarm of hens, you just have not lived!! My niece has been sending us the
little funnies that (according to Jennifer) must come from a pack of Hubba
Bubba chewing gum. For instance: Every morning I get hit by the same bicycle.
It’s a vicious cycle! Well, every time the hens see me approach with a dog
dish, they “flock” me.
Will start collecting eggs for the next few weeks to send
to the kids by one of the grands. Rachel and her boyfriend are coming up sometime
in the near future so that Damian can see where Lance and Jennifer grew up and
where the eggs come from. Looking forward to meeting him and seeing my lovely
girl.
Sterling told me today that Jacqui had one of those scans
where the person has to lie down in a tube. Seems she has some growths on her
lungs. It has been some years since the surgery and the chemo, but this shtuff
has a tendency to come back. After what the chemo did to her last time, it just
does not seem sensible to do it again. Quality of life matters. But then, that
is just me. Would appreciate your prayers for them.
The house needs to be vacuumed and mopped again. Dadgumit!
Not sure if it is my big feet or the eight feet that belong to the dogs, but we
certainly seem to track in an inordinate amount of crud on these floors. It’s
not like the old woman could teach the dogs to wipe their feet before coming
inside. Or for her to remember to take her own shoes off before walking inside!
Oh well.
Reading some of Baxter’s notes on the book of Daniel today.
Had not realized that Christ had quoted several times from that book! Amazing
what a person can learn by reading from those who truly study the overall as
well as the smaller texts of the Bible. Just makes learning twice as inspiring!
The old woman is praying for rain again. Yes, we had some,
but the land needs it again. So, when you consider the weather, pray with me
that the land will receive what it needs when it needs it.
Let us be grateful for all the blessings given to us by God
our Father.
Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
