Things We Hear.

 Things We Hear.

Lewis used to make up the words to songs because he could not understand the lyrics as they were sung. It always made me giggle. And he did not care in the least that those words did not make sense. He would go right ahead and sing them at the top of his lungs. One of his favorites was A Summer’s Place. Can’t remember now what words he used, but something was just a wee bit off about those lyrics. Oh well. Was reminded of this by something recently when a child who was supposed to be one of the wise men who came to see the Christ child said, “I bring you gifts of gold, circumstance, and dirt.” Close enough. He definitely had to deal with plenty of circumstances and lots of dirt.

My dog alarm just went off. Nothing much moves on this hill that they are not semi-aware. Any car, truck, or motorcycle is just grist for the mill. So far today, it has been too hot to let them chase up and down the fence row to chase off the boogers! Patty had a visitor on a motorcycle, but the dogs came back as soon as they were called. The neighbors across the street just get the usual bark alarm setting, but the mailman definitely would not want them to get outside. They are sure he is encroaching on our property!

Patty gave her opinion of this heat as compared to the freezing temps and ice storm we had that took out the electricity and coated us with non-passable roads. We can at least still find a comfortable place to be still in this heat. That frozen week we spent without electricity was plum scary. At least both of us had natural gas heating, so we were blessed not to have to try to stay warm without worrying about freezing to death. Of course, the old woman has these two big furry dogs to cuddle, too. So, yes, the heat is bad, but will much prefer trying to stay hydrated and cool to being waterless, powerless, and frozen into popsicles.

Went over to Walmart to pick up a few things today. Those self-checkouts are for the birds. Simply won’t do it. Granted, they don’t have anyone to take the groceries out to the truck and load them up for you, but they are just a tad cheaper than United. Nearly $200 for several sacks of essentials. Found some things that were different from usual. Got another big sack of dog food—Ol Roy—for the backdoor neighbor. Will get that over to her in a day or so. Dogs should not go hungry any more than people. Anyway, found some dog food for my two critters as well. Sylvia thought it was pretty good snackin’. Salmon flavored. Raised my eyebrows, but she ate it.

Saturday is supposed to be the day that the probiotic stuff is coming in the mail or however. Thompson gives me one of his classic “huffs” when told to quit licking. But he generally minds until he thinks he might not be noticed. Know exactly how he feels. My allergy rashes used to about drive me up a wall.

Think my grapevine may be about to turn up its toes and die. Walked out this morning to notice that all the leaves are brown—overnight no less! Heat or something has got it. Could be lack of water. Spray under there for the chickens, but never soak the vine. Guess that should have occurred to me at some point. Even my crepe myrtle is wilted. Let’s face it, that western sunshine pretty well cooks anything in its line of fire.

Have stayed away from any “news” sources today. Can’t imagine anything happy being broadcast lately. So, it was easy to find a verse of encouragement:

Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Think it might be a good idea to run by Mardels to just pick up a book of verses for the days when just a few verses of encouragement might be the best reading of the day. Isaiah always has verses that make me see beyond myself, but then nearly every book of the Bible has them. Let us share the scriptures that give you encouragement.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
