The Sounds of Silence.

 The Sounds of Silence.

Oh joy! The roofers are gone, the dogs are quiet, my head is no longer resounding to either of those sounds! Whew! Who knew silence could be so very wonderful—well, maybe teachers of grade schoolers—or mothers of small children—or the folks who work in dog kennels . . . Even the thunder shirts did not really help that much for keeping my dogs calm today. Know exactly how they felt. We didn’t have any place we could have gone, or we would have hopped in the truck and left for quieter places.

Worked at using the two pork butts for making dog food today. Cooked rice, cooked veggies, cut up the meat, mixed, stirred until the world looked level, and finally finished cleaning up. The resulting amount of dog food should last a couple of weeks. May have to go online and check for the latest meat sales and see if this week will be a good time to get more bags put into the freezer. It would be so much simpler to feed these two out of dog food cans, but just can’t stand to see them itchy! WHAT are they putting in dog food that causes that mess? And it can’t be just my dogs! FB has multiple advertisements for anti-itching solutions—everything from roll on soothers to dietary aids like pro-biotics. My sister-in-law says that the canned stuff gives her dog diarrhea, so she can only put a little bit on top of some dry food. Go figure. Will just have to keep trying. Meanwhile, veggies are not getting any cheaper.

All the cooking and mixing that was done today, and yours truly had some chicken tamales for dinn-upper. Just did not feel like doing anything special for myself. The pork butts were tasty, but pork seems so greasy. Oh well. Need to make a pot of beans and fix some cornbread tomorrow. Ha! Just put two cups of beans on to soak. Can remember when we were younger and the beans had to be sorted and the little rocks thrown out. Now, it seems, no rocks are in the bean bags. Wonder how they did that?

Just fed my two very hungry animals. Thompson is not the least bit shy about telling me he is ready to eat. Since none of the dry food is ever left out for them, they look forward to their meals. Have thought about putting some Pedigree out to see if they would eat any. Ah, it is too much trouble to even think this evening.

Debbie and David Mataska just left. They came by to see the work and to see if any of the materials were left. He told me that the shingles would settle down as soon as it was warmer—as in this Thursday since it would be up to 80 degrees. What makes it look really good is the color that goes with the paint on the house plus the brown metal stripping around the edges. Definitely looks good. And we laughed about the 30-year shingles. Not likely that an old woman of 73 will be around then.

Dearly beloved, this old woman is tired tonight, so will just tell you what has been posted on FB: Keith Mattson’s friend Carole had to go back into the hospital. Please pray for her. Think Mariellen Rose is about as good as can be expected with leukemia. Kathy Jarlsberg may or may not have more chemo before they try to do the transplant of stem cells or whatever it is they are trying to do for her body to make its own blood again. Seems like life is awfully complicated, and then we go to see doctors. But we are so much more blessed with good health than some folks who have no medical help at all.

Let’s remember to be thankful for life, for family and friends, for all that we have been given in this world. Beauty is free. Just look at the trees, the skies, the night stars, and the face of little children at play. May you all be blessed with that kind of vision. You are loved.
