A Day of Rest.

 A Day of Rest.

You all know that a body needs rest from time to time. God ordained an entire day of rest for man. My father-in-law made a comment one time about how a day of rest might work out for everyone else, but the farmer still had to get up, milk the cow, feed the chickens, and be sure everything had fresh water year ‘round. He was totally correct. This old gal is not a farmer, but those hens want out as soon as daylight starts warming up the sides of the coop. When it starts getting icy out there, my farming may get less active, too. Have been trying to figure out how the hens could be allowed more freedom when it snows or gets icy without turning them out into the yard. It has occurred to me that the rest of the houses could be re-opened during bad weather so that they could get more room to run around and still be fairly well protected. They might not like it, but it might just be the best approach to keeping them safe and me from having to spend an inordinate amount of time outside. Keeping the water from freezing in the coop will be the biggy. Will have to figure out a good way to keep their water clean as well as warm enough. Right now, they make a mess in the water bowl with it in the little coop. Time to brain storm or otherwise think of different ways to elevate that bowl while making it available for drinking.

My sister-in-law came today and brought a back brace that Cari Guidry helped her get back when she was hoping it would help her back pain problems. She also brought about 25 pounds of dog food in her little camping wagon. Like that wagon! The dogs seem to like the dogfood, too. It’s Purina One Lamb and rice. Put about a half cup of that food in each bowl with some homegrown dog food on top. They cleaned up every bite! Now let’s hope it agrees with their tummies and doesn’t cause any itching.

Dr. Blackwell came this afternoon and told me about some kind of injection she got in her knee that made it feel like a “new knee.” She said that they don’t do this stuff in all places. Not sure exactly how it works, but it takes something from your own body and replaces it with the same stuff that has been changed in some manner. Don’t ask me. My brain is on rest tonight. She has told me about this before, but my understanding just doesn’t reach that far right now. Just know that it would be nice to have a body part fixed if it could be done without any humongous expense or some kind of cutting. She wanted to know what Dr. Kern was going to do to my back. I am really not sure and probably won’t until he talks to me. We shall see.

Maggie Sewell called a little bit ago and told me that Aldi’s has spiral cut, fully cooked hams on sale in case the dogs would need any more food made pretty soon. To tell the truth, the idea of driving today was a bit much. Woke up wobbly and had planned to drive over to Sutherland’s to get one of those carbon monoxide things, but just did not feel like driving. Some days it does pay to stay at home.

Michelle Malay called and told me that it is supposed to be up to 80 for the next couple of days. That is definitely not hot, and add a bit of wind, and it could be comfortable or not—depending on how close a person stands to the lake! No sense in griping about the weather. It won’t pay a bit of attention!

Took Anne out to the greenhouse to look at my green tomatoes sitting in the hay. Lots of them had turned nice and red, but they were not soft by any means. Sent a bunch home with her. She was impressed by the little pepper plant growing a pepper for me. Then showed her the blooms on the tomato plant and the two tiny little green tomatoes. Of course, the begonias were the things that made me smile. She said she saw that some company was selling greenhouses like little barns. She had never seen that before. Well, hello. We have never had so many hard days of either heat or cold like we have had the past couple of years. And folks know what you grow yourself is probably better than what you will find in the stores.

Just turned on the little heater here in the living room and covered up these two dogs. Thompson gets cold and has a whine especially for that situation. Have thought about just keeping him in a blanket sleeper, but he would take off outside and lose it out there! He is just like a boy that likes to play in the dirt. Never cleans his feet or thinks about his clothes.

Really don’t know much worth talking about. Don’t want to talk about government, the latest count of ICU beds, or any other topic that can’t be changed by yours truly. About all my thoughts are worth tonight can be summarized by what was cooked in my slow cooker last night and today: Beans! Pinto Beans! That is like Bond, James Bond. About as noisy, too! Big grin.

May you relax in peace and praise God for all blessings. And know: you are loved.
