Odors and Fouls.

 Odors and Fouls.

Yes, it is only midpoint into February and my house smells like cooking chicken again. Sigh. The dogs are healthy because of the chicken, sweet potatoes, and other assorted veggies, but it is a lot of work and lots of putting up with this odor in my house. Sweet it is not. At the moment, a lilac candle is trying its best to overcome the scent of cooked chicken. But then, just put another batch of thighs on in Jennifer’s roaster.

A few years ago, Joe Malay sent a book to me by Michelle. Ireland, Land. People. History. By Richard Killeen. It makes me embarrassed to be part Irish. When they weren’t fighting each other, they did their best to fight anyone else that might have been the least bit interested in the land or its ownership. To a certain degree, just about any colonial offspring of the British would have plenty of reason to despise the British Empire and its sneaky ways of lining pockets of those in England to the detriment of those it fleeced. In fact, those in Israel still have plenty of reasons to resent the partitioning of that nation and the lack of support for the Jewish people whose homeland it was and is. So, of course, that means the Irish are happy to be antisemitic now. It figures. Somehow the Irish choler seems quite misdirected. But what can we say here in Texas when we are quite disgusted with every nationality imaginable that is flowing across the borders down here! Sigh.

Have not swum out to the east forty to check the rain gauge, but we certainly have been getting the rain. And it is still coming down. Not griping, understand, but have an appointment to go see the dental techs at Affordable Dentures this week. The old woman stopped trying to “tough it out” with the new ones and just has been using the old ones. Here’s hoping that they can make the new ones fit a bit less bitey on the gums! They had me sign four pieces of paper—two saying that the looks were ok and two saying that the danged things fit. Well, that is what they said those pieces of paper said. They rushed me and did not let me get out a magnifying glass to see the print. May just ask for copies of those papers. For sure will not be recommending this “service.” You know what it means when a bull “services” a cow, don’t you. Ahem.

Sylvia got me up at 2:30 this morning for a quick trip to take care of her needs. She really was quick, but came in soaked anyway. Had to dry her off and clean her feet before turning her loose to go back to the bedroom. Can’t imagine how much she would have enjoyed rolling on my quilts!! Even so, she earns her kibble and then some. And she always knows when she is needed. Not sure how that works, but she comes and gets in my face every time she is needed.

Shona said that Albert could make some raised garden/flower beds for me if we can get the pallet wood. And then Jennifer said that she thinks she can get some from work. Certainly hope it works out. The old woman has not been doing all that great on bending over and getting down and then up again. This getting old and decrepit is a bit hard on one’s ideas of what one can accomplish. But here’s to trying!! (Raising a cup of coffee and missing my mouth!)

Saw that a Clay County judge has vetoed the idea of the Ringgold Lake. Not sure just what that accomplishes, but truly would like to see a boat load of work done on Lake Wichita instead if they are not going to work on another lake. Even Lake Wichita’s water could be recycled just as well as the “effluent” that is pumped back into Arrowhead!! Oh well. What does common sense have to do with anything?

We can all be thankful for the good rain that might help us get through this year without too much stress on the water system and on the vegetation needed to feed much of our part of the country. Maybe we can all grow some earthworms and plant a few ‘mators and peppers! God gives us rain; now we need to do the planting!

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
