Weather Again.
Connie informed me this morning that we were supposed to be
in a weather watch. Jennifer sent me the same warning with a map attached. Just
stepped outside onto the deck and felt as if a warm sponge had engulfed my head
and chest. No, not my favorite weather. But if we are lucky, nothing worse than
a bit of hail will hit us with high winds. It certainly would be nice to get
some rain, however. Fat chance.
Sterling called this afternoon and asked questions about
our great-grandfather Camp. He died in 1951 according to Sterling, so it was
not like my memories of him would have been awfully clear. He picked me up from
the road and walked with me to their house. My only real memory of “Daddy B.”
My dad could not say the letter V, so it was B. Anyway, the old man had not
shaved that day, and his face was bristly. And his horse was right beside us,
but he would not put me up there. Smart man. He was ranching back then and rode
cow horses all day. His doctor told him that he was going to have to stop doing
that stuff and slow down, but the old man had no other way to take care of the
stock. So, he rode and worked the cattle. And he died one night of a heart
attack. He, like Grandmother later, had congestive heart failure. It is not the
sort of thing that is genetic, but it does seem to run in families. Anyway, Sterling
had not heard all the stories about our great-granddad the way they were told to
me. Not sure just why. But he was interested and did not know some of the details.
We got to talking about one of his friends who died a few
months ago. The friend could not sleep with anyone because he fought all night.
Told him that my friend Janis’ husband had the same problem. Jan had to build a
barrier to put between them so she could lie down on the same bed. He kicked,
hit, cursed, and screamed after he went to sleep. Vietnam. Sterling was blessed
not to have some of the same kind of nightmares, but he had his own problems.
The military sent him to Vietnam before they ever did anything about some
mashed bones in his neck. He said that each week he went to one of the
Vietnamese barbers who worked on his neck so that it would not hurt so badly.
Now it takes a chiropractor and some pain pills to do the same thing. Kinda
hard.
My allergies are so bad today that it has taken half a
bottle of moisture drops and some allergy drops in my right eye just so that it
can blink without hurting. Danged ragweeds! If we got enough rain, it might get
some of this nasty pollen out of the air. Ragweed, milkweed, and juniper have
always been a problem this time of the year. Then there are some folks who are
miserable because of the goldenrod weeds/flowers. Pretty, but oh so terrible
with pollen!
Woke up at 3:30 this morning. Went back to bed around seven
and slept for about an hour. Tried to take a nap later, but that did not work.
Maybe tonight will be better. At least the laundry is done. Everything is
folded and put away, so there’s that.
Sylvia is lying down on the floor underneath my chair with
her head on one of the legs of the chair. She looks comfortable, but it is hard
to imagine. She and Thompson chased a rat in the hen house this morning, and
SHE caught it. Heard it squealing as she took off with it, but have not seen
its body. She may have let it go if it bit her. Argh! Still, the rat population
has decreased considerably.
My friend Judie Brunson laughs about my rat tales. Don’t
think she has ever had to deal with this many critters. Thankfully this is the
first time they have absolutely taken over our neighborhood! Nasty creatures!
Would like to ask you all to pray for Mariellen Rose. Her
sons said that she has some kind of leukemia and is not doing very well. She is
Kate Ellen’s aunt. Then there is the wife of Stilton Jarlsburg, Kathy. She also
has leukemia and has had bone marrow transplants. Boy! If it is not covid, it
is something almost as bad.
Finally, my daughter and a couple of friends are going to
the East Coast for the leaf watch next Saturday. Please pray for their safe
travels and health. Gary and the boys are not going, but they will take care of
all the dogs, cats, and assorted things that happen at their house. Such
interesting lives! Never a dull moment!
Have the AC on again. It is just too dadgummed hot! Maybe
the storm front will cool things down a bit. Know that many love the heat of
summer. Some of us are not fond of that heat at all! Would prefer not to have
temps lower than freezing most of the winter, but at least it is usually
possible to get warm. Never can be sure to get cooled down in the summertime!
Gripey ol’ woman gave you a post from years ago last night,
so tonight you just get one of my plain ol’ gripes. Maybe tomorrow some humor
might accidentally be included. Stranger things have happened.
Remember to appreciate the blessings we have been given.
Take time to walk slowly and notice things around you. May God give you good
health and happiness. You are loved.
