No Need for AC Today!
Yay, just plain ceiling fans and no roaring of AC units!
And there are a few blades of green among all that tannish brown grass out
there! Yes, a smile has formed on my face just remembering to be grateful for
the seasons. Rain, wind, thunder and lightning, wind, hail, sideways rain,
wind, crashing and banging of electric lines overhead, wind, rain from the
other direction: these are just a few of our favorite things—imagine musical
notation here.
My sister-in-law called today to ask me to meet her at Hunan’s.
Oh! Never go there when hunger has struck—or for that matter, when you are
already stuffed. You WANT to eat something. And it is TOO easy to be a glutton
and fill that plate to the edge and beyond! Anyway, we agreed that we were very
happy to see Hunan’s open again. Not that getting an order to go and to eat at
home is bad! Ah, that hot and spicy soup with the crunchy pieces of fried whatever.
Not sure what that stuff is called. Wonton? Philo? Probably fried tofu.
Syvia just came to let me put some spray on her. This stuff
seems to be working for Thompson. But this is the first day for this stuff. It
says it is a vet formula hot spot and itch relief spray. Not cheap, either. But
actually, not sure that there is any REASONABLE price on anything these days.
Bought a couple of bags of feed—pellets and scratch and some sunflower seeds
(50 lb), and a bag of treats along with that medicated spray--$70 with a ONE-dollar
donation to the 4-H Clubs. And the price of feed USED to irk the old woman!
Thought the last purchase over on 281 was awfully high—probably just the store!
But NOPE! The price at TSC was just as high as it was at the Feed and Seed
Store. Nearly $20 for a 50 lb bag of feed. Anybody trying to keep hens like
mine within an enclosed space, would find those hens pecking each other and
fighting for no discernable reason. Free-range hens are happier and eat less
than those kept up in tight places. The craws on my hens are fluffy full by
evening.
Forget at the moment who caught the brunt of my opinion
about the price of anything that eats grain, but let’s check out the
mathematics at the very least. No way could a person charge enough for eggs to
pay for the feed to keep the animals. That big steak so many folks like? At
some point, that steer ate some kind of grain product. Guess what your eggs and
steak might cost. Well, for that matter, the dairy farmers have said for years
that the distributor for milk products is the one making the money—it costs too
much to feed those milk cows and pay someone else to haul the milk. Ah, how
about some biscuits and gravy? Nevermind the gravy—milk. No butter on those
biscuits? Talk to the cow. Well, how about a big piece of toast with jelly?
Umm. That toast will be $2 apiece. The jelly had to be made with artificial sweetener
made from corn, so it will be fifty cents a little packet. Fresh vegetables and
fruits are so very different. Hardly anyone can afford to buy them now, much
less when we finally get that social security raise. Ahem
We have another tornado watch tonight. Guess more folks in
this area have reasons to be grateful that the storms we had were not actual
tornadoes. Not that straight-line winds can’t do the same amount of damage! Not sure how long the big electric power
trucks will be here, but they certainly are going to have a busy fall and
winter season if the hurricanes and bad storms keep coming. One side of the
nation dries up and blows away. Right down the middle of the South, the storms
dump gazillions of gallons of rain helped along by 150 mph winds. Some help! And
if you can find a carpenter, he won’t be able to find any wood. Maybe we should
all start living in cars and buses. Or not.
Really not overly enthusiastic about anything tonight since
my body has already claimed that it surely is time or past time to lie down for
the day. Nope! Not happening. Stay up so that your body does not decide that 3:30
is a good time for getting up in the morning. Bleah!
Pray for peace and that you will see your opportunities to
share God’s love in whatever way is best. May you all rest well. You are loved.
