My Ratters!
Was in the kitchen sitting down to eat some warmed up King
Ranch casserole leftovers when it occurred to me that only ONE dog was in there
begging. Sylvia was NOT in the house—looked in each room. Went outside and
called her. Finally found her in the hen coop trying to get at a rat. Thompson
said that he would be happy to help her, but all they did was wiggle, whine,
dig, and otherwise behave as if frustration were the only answer to any
question. Poor babies. They can SMELL those rotten critters! Just give them
half a chance and it will be a dead rat!
Took down two of the snap traps—one off the neighbor’s fence
and one off the wall inside the long coop. Have to re-bait them with bacon that
is fresh enough to entice the nasty rats. The peanut butter has pretty much
stopped working, it seems. Will have to try more peanut butter on the water
trap that Lance made. We will see if it can be used on a shelf where one rat
seems to hide out. Can’t put it on the floor due to the stinkin’ fire ants.
Today has been relatively quiet around here. Just reading
and getting a little bit done at a time. Changed the sheets on my bed, cleaned
up the living room, and stripped the covers off the couch and washed them. That
is pretty much a chore all by itself, but it was beginning to smell like dog in
here, so it really needed to be done. Don’t really want to give the dogs a bath
right now. They seem to be doing just a bit better with the allergy problems,
but no sense in stirring up problems. Am pretty sure that the Wham formula
would not cause them to itch, but the hydrocortisone wipes can only cover so
much dog before my hands give out. Guess maybe a paper towel soaked in the
stuff might work better than these little wipers. Just wish allergies were not
such a problem for ALL of us—people and critters alike!
Watching Jennifer’s trail of Life 360 reminds me that each
state has a couple of places that are named not unlike places in OTHER states—Paris
is familiar, is it not? Then there are the creeks and roads that have such
amusing names: Sockless Creek! Giggling about that one and figuring that it had
a good reason for earning that name. Grandmother Pollard grew up on Frog Creek
in Clay County. Wonder if any other state has a Frog Creek.
Did some reading about neuropathy and discovered that may
be the reason the old woman is so wobbly. Lack of coordination comes along with
the numbness in the feet. It is pretty disgusting that the folks at the physical
therapy place thought that there was nothing wrong with me because I was so
limber and able to walk well part of the time and leaned at angles part of the
time. Well, duh. Now we know why. Nevermind the torn discs or the pinched
nerves. Oh well. No biggie. Never have given a rat’s patootie about what people
thought about me anyway. No sense starting now. Just wish it were possible to
think that all of this mess will get better so that the things that could be
accomplished before could be done again. Miss pulling weeds and digging in the
dirt!
Just noticed that another state has a Big Sandy. Then also
noticed that Jenn and her friends will be going east of where Dutch Henry and
his wife live in West Virginia. Judie Brunson sat down with Dutch while we were
at their house and talked books with Dutch. His wife Robin was busy with a
business back then of arranging for conferences for different companies. Not
sure if she is still doing that or not. Know Dutch is still writing books
centered on what his old dog expressed on his “travels.” Kinda neat to read
about Saturday’s adventures. Bought some of the books for my niece’s boys. Not
sure if they ever read them, but got them for them anyway. Anyway, by tonight
Jenn and her friends should be in Virginia at Uncle Paul’s house. The trip aims
at Maine and the woods up there, so will be praying for decent weather for
them.
Read on FB this morning that Mariellen Rose will be going
to Houston’s M.D. Anderson hospital for chemo as soon as they beat the pneumonia.
Let’s remember not only Mariellen, but her family as well. Hospitals are wonderful
for what they can accomplish, but they are also very draining on energy for the
entire family. Have not read anything further about Kathy Jarlsburg, but we can
hope that the doctors have allowed her to go home to rest up. She, too, has
leukemia. Her husband writes some satirical stuff about politics that makes me
shake my head and sometimes even laugh. Might as well laugh, ya know.
Really about as dumb as a rock tonight. Plan to finish this
book and maybe even start another one. Sometimes it makes me feel pretty good
to realize that understanding family turmoil is something that just pretty much
goes around in every family out there. Praise God that He showed us that even
Christ’s family thought that Jesus was a bit off.
Hope all of you are enjoying Keith Mattson’s photos and
comments. He never really tells us much about himself, but maybe you get plenty
of that from this particular part of the blog. Such is life.
Rest well and enjoy the small things that can please you.
Sometimes the small things are more important than all the big events in life.
You are loved.
