Moanin’ and Groanin’.
Vacuumed and mopped again—chasin’ after these dogs and
their dirt! HOW they manage to bring in so much is beyond me! No sense having a
housekeeper come in if each day returns the same amount of dirt, mud, and
assorted garbage tracked into the house. Had to change the covers on the couch
again because of the mud on it. Dust mopped, and then vacuumed, then mopped.
Just amazing! Only the dust bowl could have been worse---or dirt floors in a
lean-to house!
Cleaned the blades on the living room fan while the
electricity was off earlier. Actually, thought something was wrong with the AC
until Patty called and said something about the electricity being off. Duh.
Doesn’t take me long to figure things out. MUCH!
As most of you might know, this old woman does not watch
the news on TV or read newspapers. Barely even read anything in the JP or on
AOL because most of it is so dubious in connection with reality. Anyway, today
has been one of those days that hearing about things that have happened has been
upsetting. Whether it is planes that have been denied a landing place in the
U.S. or inmates that have to feed other inmates oatmeal because at least one
can’t swallow due to illness, these things are simply wrong! God help us if we
have totally lost all forms of compassion within our governing bodies. Where is
our sense of responsibility for those of our nation? It may seem wrong to shuffle
thousands of Haitians back to their island or back to Mexico, but those who are
U.S. citizens should be given first consideration when returning to the country
or when incarcerated by our counties. Sitting here shaking my head. Sad. Just
sad.
My doctor came by today, and we talked a while. Michelle
Malay came while she was here and met Dr. Blackwell. It seems neat to me that
so many different people are mixed among those of my acquaintance. Asked
Michelle to call me each day if she could remember so that at least one person
would know that she was doing ok. She had some surgery the other day. Her
sister came down from OK to take her and bring her back, but it is always a
good idea for someone to know how things are going—one of the reasons that a
call to Connie each day assures both of us that we are ok. Can’t blame BR for
not calling from Paducah, but think she might have someone close by she might
be talking to each day. Hope so, anyway.
One of my Maran hens is molting, and feathers are
everywhere out there. Her tail feathers are non-existent, so she looks funny—hunched
back even! It does not take much to make me laugh, but that has been the best
one today—the hunch back of Nancy’s hens!
Started another one of the Golden Retriever mysteries. The
guy can’t help wanting to do “research” on his computer, but like my addiction
to reading, it is just nearly impossible to resist!
The dogs just requested—mostly politely—another treat. They
were asked to eat with their mouths closed so crumbs don’t get all over the
place. SMALL snacks work best.
Patty told me today that the postal service plans to go up
on the price of stamps by twenty-five cents. Kinda doing away with letters at that
rate. Guess getting a real letter would make a big difference in how we feel
about someone if that person sent a real letter with that kind of postage on
it. Got a note from Maria Ostand today that had a stamp of ScoobyDoo on it.
That was my youngest grandson’s favorite cartoon years ago. He might not have
made good sentences at the time, but he could sing the lyrics to that song! Oh,
and the postal service also said that instead of two-day delivery, it would be
closer to five or six days! Such fun! Wonder how that is going to affect
businesses. No wonder so many places are doing away with free-standing stores
and strictly doing business online.
Well, have checked on the hens and gave them some scratch
for the afternoon. They may want more, but they can wait until morning for more
of that stuff. They have plenty of the feed they should be eating in the
feeders. And they had a head of Romaine lettuce earlier. The cabbage head is
all gone except for a bit of the outside base. The grass is peeking out in
places, so they will have something green to eat soon without having to rely on
my largess. Thank God for rain!
Rest well and try to find something positive in life. Our
attitudes rely on our minds, the weather, and whatever we choose to think
about. Right this red-hot minute, my gratitude is toward God’s weather changes
and the cooler temps. Leaves changing colors, critters scampering, and breezes
blowing. May you all find this kind of joy!
You are loved.
