Counting Hens.

 Counting Hens.

Usually there are ten hens in one coop and eleven in the other coop. Tonight there were NINE in the middle coop and twelve in the front coop. So, basically, the twenty-one hens are all safely stashed on the roosts, but the old woman just has to count them carefully or she’ll be out with a flashlight looking for a “missing” hen. Once in a long while, one will get inside a nest and stay there all night. Yes, an egg will be forthcoming, but usually they do that job during the day. Think they enjoy “cackling” about those eggs, too. Just so you know, a hen can make just as much noise as any silly ol’ rooster!

Talked to both kids today. All is well and they seem happy. Jennifer has not packed yet, but she’ll handle it. Lance helped his friend Jay move yesterday and listened as his wife and oldest child tried to connect a new modem to something else that had to involve calling the company to get the right signal. Who knows! If it is more involved than turning a knob on a TV or poking a button on a phone, no one need bother trying to explain anything technical to this old person. Think that is about how Lance feels about it, too.

Lance and Tracy are granddog sitting. Codi loves being at their house with them. She gets lots of attention. When asked why the kids were gone, Lance explained that they went to a “drifting” event. That has something to do with driving a car very fast into a turn. Sounds kind of sketchy to me, but then, some of us don’t go very fast on a straight road.

Have seen more posts on FB for ranchers who are willing to hold the stock for ranchers from the Panhandle. Also, saw several hay and feed trucks headed that direction. Bottled water, food, stuff for calves and goats, halters, and other equipment are all going to be needed after a barn burns. It is so sad, and at the same time it makes me feel proud of our neighbors. Think WF sent nine firemen and maybe some trucks to the Panhandle. They are still in a horrible battle because of the winds and the dry grass. This thing is not over. God bless and protect those folks—both the fire fighters, the home and ranch owners, and those trying to provide relief for them.

Neighbors wanted to be sure the old woman does not starve to death or something. Their granddaughter Autumn had a birthday, so Shona brought me a plate of birthday burger and hotdog. Family birthdays are always fun, but those kids are blessed with a great pair of grands.

Patty had visitors this evening. She had to go find her list of things for DG and Michelle to do for her. Think the main job was changing a water filter or something. When it hurts to touch anything, trying to grasp things just can be miserable. She has all kinds of bottle openers, but some things just need fingers.

Trying very hard tonight to just rest and not think about the things that worry me. Let us remember those who need to be healed, those whose mental health suffers, and those who are simply too tired to lift their heads and ask God for help. It happens.

Rest well, my friends. You are loved.
